Security Forces Arrest 46 Suspected Bandits in Kwara
Security operatives in Kwara State have made a significant breakthrough in their efforts to combat banditry, arresting 46 suspected bandits in the Babanla axis of Ifelodun Local Government Area. The suspects, who were intercepted while riding motorcycles, are currently undergoing profiling as part of the state's ongoing efforts to rid its communities of criminal elements.
This development comes amid recent attacks in the Babanla area, where bandits have been responsible for killings and kidnappings. The Kwara State Government has reiterated its commitment to supporting security agencies in maintaining peace and stability across the state. Residents of Babanla and surrounding communities have expressed relief and commended the proactive collaboration among the security forces.
Meanwhile, Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, has dismissed social media reports claiming that a traditional ruler and his queens were arrested for alleged involvement in banditry and kidnapping. This clarification aims to put to rest any misinformation circulating about the arrests.
A viral social media post alleged that the King of Babanla and his queens were in police custody after N120 million linked to banditry was discovered. According to the post, N90 million was recovered from the monarch's palace, and N30 million was traced to the queen's account. The report sparked mixed reactions online, with some people praising the move as proof that no one is above the law.
However, Kwara State Police Commissioner, Adekimi Ojo, has dismissed the claims, stating that no traditional ruler is in police custody. He described the alleged recovery of millions of naira as unverified hearsay. CP Ojo noted that the story of the Oba's arrest was already circulating before he and other service chiefs visited Babanla community, where they met with the traditional ruler in his palace.
The police commissioner emphasized the importance of verifying information through national or mainstream media platforms before accepting it as true. It's worth noting that the Oba of Babanla, Oba Aliyu Adegboyega Yusuf, Arojojoye II, has been involved in efforts to support his community, particularly after a recent bandit attack that left several residents dead and many displaced
