Tinubu-led Govt Has Reduced Boko Haram Attacks, Banditry– NSA Ribadu

The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, has said that Boko Haram attacks, banditry, and communal conflicts in the northern region have reduced drastically in the last two years of President Tinubu’s administration, compared to what the situation was in the last administration.

He claimed that Nigeria has been battling with insecurity for over 20 years, with the emergence of Niger Delta agitation, Boko Haram, banditry, and separatist groups, such as IPOB.

The National Security Adviser (NSA) also cited that 1,192 people were killed and over 3,348 kidnapped in Kaduna State during the previous administration, while more than 5,000 people lost their lives in Benue State within the same period.

He made this known on Tuesday while addressing northern leaders at the two-day interactive session organised by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation in Kaduna State.

Ribadu said that the successes recorded in the fight against insecurity is as a result of President Tinubu’s directive to security agencies on a unified security approach.

He said that the various security operations across the North-West have led to the release of 11, 259 hostages as at May 2025.

He also disclosed that several bandit leaders and their gang members have been eliminated by security forces in Zamfara, Kaduna and Katsina states.

“Before we came in, bandits were in control in North-Central and other parts of the North, killing innocent people on a daily basis, burning villages and communities. There were farmer-herder and communal clashes,” the NSA said.

“We have traced, identified, and dealt with them.

“Before May 29, 2023, there were high-profile attacks and mass casualties across the country.

According to Ribadu, the Niger Delta issue have been fixed, with crude oil production now over 1.9 million barrel per day from one million before.

“We have stopped those that wanted to divide the country.

“Tinubu instructed the security agencies to work together as one, and we are working together, even with the governors.

“Kaduna now is about 80 percent free; no more bandits.

“We are carrying out operations in Kwara and other states. All security apparatus in the country work as a team. Today communities that were gripped with banditry now have relief.”
