Cbex Crash: Nigerians Lost Money Due To Lack Of Education About Scam Prevention - Rotimi Onadipe

The Publisher of Internet Safety Magazine and Executive Director of Stay Safe Online Academy Ltd, Rotimi Onadipe, on Saturday revealed that many Nigerians fell victim to CBEX Ponzi scheme that crashed few days ago because they were not well educated about how to detect and avoid scams.

Onadipe, a prominent advocate for online security and fraud prevention, stated this on Saturday during his speech at the 153rd edition of his training program, aimed at educating the public about how to stay safe online.

The theme of the training program is "The Importance Of Staying Safe Online At All Times."

Recall that many Nigerians reportedly invested in the collapsed trading platform and lost over N1.3 trillion.

Addressing journalists in Ibadan, Onadipe explained that the huge financial loss was because the unsuspecting investors were not well informed about fraud prevention tips.

He stated: "We must be informed that scammers are becoming more sophisticated in their criminal activities every day, increasing their knowledge about how to convince and deceive their victims to investing their hard-earned money in any business they introduce to them."

"While these scammers are increasing their knowledge every day about how to defraud people, we also need to arm ourselves with knowledge about how to avoid falling for their scams. This is very important because scammers don't give up on their victims. They will still come back in a different form, with different identity, and more sophisticated tricks," Onadipe added.

According to him, the crashed trading platform took advantage of many Nigerians that had little knowledge about how to avoid frauds and scams. He noted that the organisers changed their old tricks to make the scheme look legitimate and more sophisticated.

He explained that it was the same old ponzi scheme but it was presented to Nigerians in a different way.

He noted that proper education about scams and how to avoid them is what everyone needs now, stressing that what happened to many Nigerians few days ago could have been avoided if the victims were well informed about scams and how to avoid them.

"While I sympathize with the victims of the crashed trading platform, I want to inform the public that it is not too late to learn about how to avoid falling victim to scams and frauds." the online safety advocated stated.

In his final statement, Onadipe said proper education remains the only strong weapon to win the war against fraudsters and cyber criminals in today's technology age. He assured Nigerians that his newly established facility, Stay Safe Online Academy Ltd, has all it takes to educate Nigerians about how to avoid becoming victims of scams and other online risks.
