Goodseed Daily Devotional  14th December  2024

Apostle George Amadi & Pastor Chika Amadi (Lead Pastors: Goodnews Bible Church, London)

TOPIC: THE TRAGEDY OF TAKING WHAT IS NOT YOURS

SCRIPTURE: And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; GENESIS 3:17.

It has been established that taking what you are not given, otherwise known as stealing, is one lifeclass that cuts people’s life and destiny short.

Adam was the first character in Scripture who took what he was not given, and it affected him and his generations negatively.

God created Adam in His own image and placed him in the Garden of Eden. In the Garden, Adam had everything he needed in life. God gave him free license and access to eat the fruits of all the trees in the Garden except the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Unfortunately, he disobeyed God and ate the forbidden fruit and inherited curses (Genesis 3:17).

What a tragedy! I want you to note what God said to the serpent when He cursed it in Genesis 3:14b.

He said, “ … and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:”

And to Adam, God said, “ … dust thou art and to dust shall thou return”. Genesis 3:19.

Can you see a connection of “dust” between man and the serpent when both of them were being cursed by God?

God told Adam when he sinned that ‘ … dust thou art’. God seemed to have told Adam, “Because you have sinned against me by eating what I asked you not to eat, you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”

By implication, when God told the serpent that it shall eat or feed on dust, it means that the serpent would feed on human lives because sin has reduced man to dust. That is why the serpent (devil) feasts on human lives and destinies by seeking to destroy them; it is a curse!

As a result of taking what he was not licensed by God to take, Adam was driven out of the Garden; he ate a fruit and lost a whole garden.

Taking what is not yours makes you lose what is rightfully yours.

Stay in the boundary of God’s provisions for your life.

Do not take what you have not been licensed to take so that you do not lose what is legally yours.

PRAYER: Lord, I ask that You deliver me from the spirit of greed and covetousness. Help me to stay within the boundary of Your provisions for my life, in Jesus’ Name.
