Gunmen Demand N200m To Release Abducted Catholic Reverend Father In Edo
Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have reportedly demanded N200million to release Reverend Father Thomas Oyode of the Catholic Diocese of Auchi, Edo State.
The Diocese, led by Bishop Gabriel Dunia, confirmed the demand through its Director of Communications, Rev. Fr. Peter Egielewa.
“It is true,” he stated. Similarly, an anonymous source disclosed that: “The kidnappers on Monday evening contacted the Auchi Catholic Diocese and asked them to pay N200million if they want them to release the kidnapped priest.
“As at yesterday (Monday), negotiation was yet to commence with the kidnappers and I don’t know whether the Catholic family will discuss ransom negotiation.”
Rev. Fr. Oyode was kidnapped by gunmen on Sunday around 7pm at Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary School in Agenegbode, Etsako East, Edo State.
During the incident, the gunmen initially abducted two students, but Rev. Fr. Oyode pleaded with them to release the students and take him instead.
The gunmen ultimately agreed to his request, releasing the students and taking him captive.
