ONI URGES MUSLIMS TO UPHOLD THE LESSONS OF RAMADAN
Ekiti State Governor, Engr. Segun Oni has urged Muslims in the country to continue to uphold the lessons learnt during the 30 days Ramadan fasting period, saying; “it is only when all Muslims and lovers of the Holy Prophet Mohammed (SAW) continue to tailor their lives in line with the lessons of the Ramadan that the 30 days fasting that just ended will be worthwhile.”
In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the governor, Mr. Wale Ojo-Lanre, Governor Oni, in a goodwill message to commemorate the end of the Ramadan fasting said lesson of the 30 days of self denial must not be lost on the Muslim faithful.
“The Ramadan period was that of sacrifice, self denial and total submission to the Almighty Allah (SWT). It was a period when our brothers in Islam were steadfast in their service to Allah and humanity.
“For us not to been seen as being hypocritical in our service to Allah
(SWT) and humanity during the 30 days fasting period, we must continue to show love, serve Allah (SWT) in truth, humility and sincerity and shun all the vices that we abstain during the fasting period.
“Most especially, as we move towards 2011, which is an election year, Muslim leaders in the country must assist in the crusade against political thuggery, violence and the use of our youths to perpetrate crimes before, during and after the elections.
“We should continue to preach love because love is the greatest gift of all. Where there is love, there will be peace and harmony. And where peace and harmony reigns, development will thrive.
“Therefore, as we end the Holy month of Ramadan, it is my belief that our Muslim brothers and sisters will continue to emulate Prophet Mohammed (SAW) and learn from his Hadith (sayings and deeds of the prophet),” Oni said.
While urging Muslims in the State to continue to support the government with prayers, the governor noted that his administration has remained at the vanguard of peaceful co-existence among various religions in the State.
