Top Celebrities In Attendance As LASUSU Hosts Groundbreaking Pageantry, Award Ceremony

The Lagos State University (LASU) was, on Friday, filled with glitz and glamour as top celebrities in entertainment industry graced a star-studded pageantry and award ceremony in celebration of talents and achievements of students.

The event, which was hosted by the Lagos State University Students’ Union through the office of Social Director, was held at the university’s main auditorium known as Buba Marwa auditorium.

The event, titled Mr and Miss LASU and Award Day, took place with much fanfare, featuring appearances from notable celebrities including Wunmi Toriola, M Kido, JIDEX, Dj Fizzy, Tobi Makinde and Lanre Adediwura.

The pageantry, which has become a significant tradition within LASU, showcased the diverse talents and beauty of the students as contestants competed for the coveted titles of MR and MISS LASU, displaying their skills in various categories including fashion, talent, and intellectual prowess.

The event also celebrated outstanding achievements within the university community through an award ceremony.

Students, faculty, and staff were recognized for their exceptional contributions in academics, sports, leadership, and community service.

According to the Students’ Union, the event brought a rebirth of vibrancy to the social life of LASU populace, marking a significant milestone in reviving the campus’s cultural and social engagements.

The success of the event was given as a testament to the hard work and dedication of the LASU Students’ Union and all those involved in its organization.

While speaking exclusively to our reporter, the 34th LASUSU Social Director, Comrade Ismail Muhammad, described the success of the event as an impressive landmark on the campus.

“It's impressive how I addressed the challenges of time management and successfully organized a landmark event at LASU.

“Starting the Mr. and Miss LASU pageantry at 10am and combining it with an award ceremony was a strategic move to ensure the event could be enjoyed fully without violating the school's social gathering rules.

“By conducting research on what typically delays programs, I was able to streamline the event's schedule and attract a large audience. This innovative approach not only enhanced the experience for the students but also set a new precedent for future events at the university. My efforts showcase an exceptional skills in event planning and execution, further solidifying his reputation as one of the best social directors in LASU's history.”

Narrating how he learnt from previous fallouts in organizing similar occasions on the campus, Comrade Muhammad pointed out that due diligence and strategy were reasons behind the positive output of the event.

“The event is way beyond my explanation. After Pocolee hosted his event in LASU titled ‘Party With Poco’ it had been difficult for LASUITES to organise events on campus.

When Pocolee hosted his event, my predecessor was the one in power. My predecessor also organised Mr and Miss LASU which flopped because a lot of students were scared to go into the hall because of the event that happened during Pocolee's event.

“The social life in LASU was dead; I organised Mr and Miss LASU Fresher for last semester and it had the same result as my predecessor. The event flopped, as people refused to attend.

“I now strategised and made research on how to wake the social life on campus. In my process of trying to wake the social life on campus, I didn't know I was about to break records,” he told our reporter in an interview on Saturday.

“This has never happened in the history of LASU. There was no space in the hall; the hall was filled with over 3,000 students. It was so surprising to the extent that some students praised it for being the best organised pageantry in the history of LASU.

“It was not just a pageantry, but also with an award; killing two birds with one stone.

This is the top topic in town, the event was very impressive and massive,” he added.

When asked about the prizes extended to the pageantry winners, the Social Director disclosed that, “N300k worth of prizes for the winners and they’ve gotten lot of souvenirs.”
