EFCC Interrogates Plateau LG Chairman Over N140M Fraud

JOS, Sept 02, (THEWILL) - Chairman of Riyom Local Government Council in Plateau State, Mr. Simon Mwadkon has been questioned by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the alleged misuse of N140 million naira belonging to the council.

He was invited on Monday and questioned at the EFCC office same day before he was allowed to go.

Eight councilors in the local government had sent a petition against the Chairman to the EFCC. This did not go down well with the chairman who later dragged the eight councilors to the police station in Riyom and thereafter, mobilized other councilors to suspend them from the council.

The councilors had also written to the Plateau State House of Assembly to intervene and compel the leader of Riyom legislative arm to seek explanation on how the council Chairman spent over N140m.

The councilors in their petition alleged that the council Chairman spent N49 million for extension of electricity to Ganawuri, a district in the local government.

The petition also accused the council Chairman of misusing the funds for Kwakwi and Tahoss projects.

THEWILL learnt that the Plateau State House of Assemble has commenced full investigations into the matter before his invitation by the EFCC.

The councilors that signed the petition include Luka Dalyop Badung, Hassan Sule Pyam, Sati Mbok Dadi, Botson Iliya Dachung, Victor Davou Gyak, David Harun Samson, Noah Toma Chunglu and Isuwa Mann Dauda.
