Federal Government Postpones Resumption Of Abuja-Kaduna Train Services Indefinitely

The Federal Government of Nigeria has postponed the resumption of services at the Abuja-Kaduna train service till further notice.

The Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo, made this disclosure on Sunday after an inspection tour to access the state of readiness between Abuja-Kaduna rail services before the commencement of operations.

The Minster who did not reveal when the services will resume, disclosed that it wouldn’t be long before the train service resumes work.

The Nigerian Voice recalls that the government had earlier announced that the Abuja-Kaduna train services would resume before the end of November 2022.

Train service was suspended on the route by the Nigerian Railway Corporation in March 2022 when terrorists attacked and abducted scores of passengers heading to Kaduna. Many people were reportedly killed in the attack.

Subsequently, those who were abducted regained their freedom, in batches.

However, with three days left for the month to end, Sambo on Sunday told journalists in Kaduna that the resumption of services at the station is extended.

The Minister said the government has introduced a new system of purchasing tickets, which he said is the beginning of security checks, adding that it will enable them to ascertain who boards the train at every point in time.
