Bayelsa Political Crisis: Ekeremor People Want Political Officers To Resign
Rejects Seibarugu appointment as Deputy Governor
Following the political crisis rocking Bayelsa state, the people of Ekeremor, home town of the ousted Deputy Governor, Hon. Peremobowei Ebebi have called on all its citizens currently holding political positions in the Timipre Sylva led administration to resign their positions.
In a statement signed by the former Chairman of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Central zone, Sir Jonathan Lokpobiri and made available to news men in Yenagoa, the people of the community have given seven days ultimatum to its brothers and sisters who are serving the state in various capacities to relinquish their positions.
They decried a situation where their people should be treated as if they are visitors while their brothers from other communities would be enjoying full benefits from accruing to the state in terms of strategic appointments.
“We do not want economic and political development fed to us in teaspoons by a government we have shown our utmost loyalty, commitment and sacrifice even when we have little or nothing to commensurate our solidarity and love”, they lamented.
The people of the community vehemently reject the elevation of the former speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Werinipre Seibarugu to the position of the deputy Governor, saying, “the action is done in absolute error and must be reviewed in the interest of our political brotherhood and sustainable peace for the good of all”.
Their grouse is predicated on the ground that since the former Deputy Governor, Peremobowei Ebebi was impeached; he should be replaced from the same area, Ekeremor to replace the former Deputy Governor's slot.
According to the statement, “Why should the people of Ekeremor be treated with such passion, indignity and internal segregation thereby sending the people into political extinction? Could this action mean that we do not have even one person from Ekeremor or Sagbama who deserved the office of the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa state?
“This revelation clearly shows what the government of our beloved state holds for the people of Ekeremor. Essentially, we do not need to be told that we are not a part of the government of the state”.
Meanwhile, the court of Appeal on Thursday, same day the new deputy Governor, Werinipre Seibarugu was sworn-in, has ordered a reverse of the action, ruling that the status-quo should remain pending the final verdict on the suit which comes up by October.
