Protest In Minna Over Epileptic Power Supply
Having had enough of poor power supply in Niger State which has and still crippling especially economic activities in the state, thousands of Youth in the State under the aegis of ALL CONCERN NIGERLITES on Tuesday, 20th December, 2016 took to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company in Minna to protest the epileptic and pathetic power supply.
The aggrieved but peaceful protesters constituted of vibrant, patriotic young sons and daughters of Niger, with dress code of Black on Black converged at Mobile filling Station roundabout as early as 6:30am and stormed the Minna Abuja Electricity Distribution Company's office peacefully chanting solidarity songs, calling for restitution with placards with an assortment of various epigraphs like #OccupyAEDCNigerState, #BringBackOutLight, #NoLightNoPayment, #EnoughIsEnough to mention but a few.
Nigerlites recall, in a statement signed by the convener, Comrade Muhammed Muhammed and co-convener, Dr. Mohammed Aliyu on 18 December, 2016 after a meeting at Murtala Park, Minna, it was resolved that the peaceful protest seeks to register Nigerlites displeasure and dissatisfaction over power supply in Niger State despite housing 3 hydro-power dams of Kainji, Jebba and Shiroro Stations, respectively.
The statement reads "the meeting has shown the interest and concern of Nigerlites about power supply. The meeting deliberated on how to find a lasting solution to the issue of black out in Niger State".
It added that "3 issues/way out were suggested ; 1. Write a letter to AEDC and wait for their response, 2. Stage a protest to AEDC, State Assembly and State Secretariat and occupied them and 3. Occupy the three hydro dams we have in the State".
The statement further disclosed that "the meeting concluded to start with a massive peaceful protest, i.e item 2 resolution above. Also, for proper planning, the following committees were formed ; Media, Security, Welfare and Logistics".
The statement concluded notifying Nigerlites that, "security agencies will be fully engaged before the protest for their support and security cover".
