Viewpoint: Ondo Guber And The Assurance Of Victory For Olusola Oke

It is a known fact as it is in politics as with any competition, that failure is an orphan.

In contradiction, the smell of victory and the taste of success are known to be sweet. In the forthcoming Ondo State governorship elections in which Barrister Olusola Oke of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Barrister Rotimi Akeredolu of APC and Jimoh Ibrahim of the PDP will lock horns, the dust of campaign is clearing and it is becoming clear who the people of Ondo State will vote for in the historic and crucial election.

Amongst the people of Ondo generally, it is becoming obvious by the day that the time to rescue the State from the present political and economic quagmire is now. This is a fact judging from the developments across every communities that the campaigns have been taken to.

Curiously enough, the APC particularly is advocating change at a time that Nigerians have been faced with one of the most disappointing moment of our history, judging by the woeful performance of the APC at the Central.

Inadvertently, they have forgotten that Ondo State people are not interested in their unrealizable Change, being preached in the State now by a candidate (Rotimi Akeredolu), whose emergence from the party’s primary remains a subject of subject of controversy, judging by the electoral fraud that pervaded his emergence.

To our people in Ondo State, the way the APC campaign team have conducted its campaign has shown clearly that it lacks confidence in its candidate. Rotimi Akeredolu is morally burdened with allegations of corruption that trailed his emergence as APC candidate and his patronship of several violent gangs in the State since the process began.

Keen watchers of Ondo 2016 governorship election campaigns have seen this lack of confidence in the ability of Rotimi Akeredolu to say the correct things to win Votes. More troubling for the APC and its candidate, is the candidature of Chief Alexander Olusola Oke of the AD, who has clearly further exposed the fact, that the APC and Akeredolu are going nowhere in the forthcoming November 26th, governorship election in the state.

Indeed, the worry amongst the Ondo State electorate in general is not that Olusola Oke will win the election, but by what margin of victory, considering some scanty support of Rotimi Akeredolu in just two of eighteen Local government areas of the State. Again, the reason and telltale signs are there for all to see.

The first is that Ondo State people have successfully resented and resisted the desperation of APC to hijack power in the State.

The APC forgot that Ondo is a politically conscious society, where the people wield enormous power to determine who governs them at all times.

In many instances, our people have started seeing the hitherto inaccessible and unavailable powerful APC officials and even Rotimi Akeredolu himself showing up at parties and social events which they have shunned with contempt in the recent past.

The message they seem to be passing to their surprised acquaintances is that they are back because the game is up and they know for certain that it is no business as usual in the corridors of power in Ondo politics. This is because the Olusola Oke AD’s campaign in Ondo State has upset the apple cart of APC's expectations and federal might.

Such is the assurance of victory and joy amongst Ondo residents and defected APC supporters that they now only pray to God and for good health to see them through to the November 26th election when they cast their ballot to seal the assured victory of Chief Olusola Oke.
