NOCSON Calls For The Redeployment Of DSP Wale Olumagba For Taking Side With Thugs Who Attacked Peaceful Protesters
The leadership and Members of Network of Civil Society organizations of Nigeria (NOCSON) led by Barrister Abraham Oviawe embarked upon a peaceful protest on the 31st of August, 2016 to address the level of injustice meted on some members of staff of Federal-Neuro Psychiatric Hospital, Uselu who were unjustly sacked from work and the fraudulent activities of the Chief Medical Director (CMD) Dr. Sunday Osasu Olotu.
Few poles to the gate of the hospital, some youths with dangerous weapons led by one Efetobo Stewart, the P.R.O of the hospital disrupted our protest and attacked our people and destroyed our banners under the watchful eyes of Armed Policemen led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Okhoro police station, DSP Wale Olumagba. Some of our members sustained various degree of injury.
It must be noted that the duties of the police is to maintain law and order; arrest offenders; prevention and detention of crime etc.
It beats our imagination when the armed police men led by wale decided to give cover to the thugs who attacked peaceful protesters in a civilized society. What is so infuriating and exasperating is the unlawful arrest of our members who were with placards even though the DPO said they were in protective detention.
While the DPO could not arrest the thugs when we are aware that the CP has zero tolerance for cultism. It is so sardonic and lugubrious and we condemned intoto the aloofness of the Okhoro Police boss.
To this end, we demand as follows: 1.That the Commissioner of Police should order the arrest of Efe Stewart and his cronies who brutally invaded our protest so as to serve as deterrent to others who believed in impunity.
2. That the Commissioner of Police should redeployed immediately the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Okhoro Police Station, DSP Wale Olumagba for taking side with the thugs for police are supposed to unbiased umpire in a situation like this.
3. That the DPO of Okhoro Police Station should tender an unreserved apology to NOCSON for arresting our members and lying to the Commissioner of Police that protesters were throwing stones at the police.
4. That the Commissioner of police should restructure Okhoro Police Division for it has history of professional negativity and sagacity.
