GEMADE! GEMADE!! GEMADE!!! – PLEASE WAKE-UP
Senator Barnabas Gemade who turns 69 September 4th 2016 is increasingly
getting tired and less attentive to his surroundings, irrespective of who
is watching or where he is.
A prove of this, manifested itself recently when the senator representing
Benue North-East Senatorial Zone, was again caught on camera busily
sleeping and snoring on duty right inside the national assembly chambers ,
while his other colleagues were busy contributing during senate plenary.
The picture of the shameless, sleeping and snoring senator has been
making the rounds on social media is clear indication that he appears to
be sleeping in this his second missionary journey as a senator.
The maverick politician from Benue state, was virtually dead to his
immediate environment. He was woken up many times by his colleagues,
GEMADE! GEMADE!! GEMADE!!! – PLEASE WAKE-UP! but slipped back to bed,
despite the noise around him.
Gemade ‘s situation clearly epitomizes the biblical quotation captured in
Matthew 26:41 in the New Testament that “the soul is willing, but the body
is weak”.
Since I watched the picture, I have asked myself so many questions, is it
that he was weak due to much labour at night (meetings etc) or that he was
sleeping due to less importance he attached to the debate ? or could these
senator have been working too hard with very little or no time to rest?
Endless questions! No matter what could be said and analyzed, only God and
our great senator know the truth.
It is obvious that going without sleep for so long makes one feel very
terrible and getting a good night sleep makes one feel ready to take on
the next day activity.
Oh yes, sleep is good to human health. Sleep plays a critical role in
immune function, metabolism, memory, learning and other vital functions.
Sleep is good but has its own time.
Even our saviour Jesus Christ caution us about unnecessary sleeping. In
the gospel of St Mathew 13 : 24 – 25. Jesus said,” The kingdom of heaven
is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. But while he was sleeping,
his enemy came and sowed tares (weed resembling wheat) among the wheat and
went his way”
Sleeping on duty is very wrong; again, meditating or sleeping while a
serious debate is going on at the floor of the House is very unethical and
exposes lack of seriousness and proper knowledge of the assignment.
The fact that Senator Barnabas Gemade slept while debate of obvious
importance is a thing to reflect on. I feel pity that stress or old age
may have caught up with him or that he had serious night vigil for so many
days. Therefore being a natural human being, cheating nature, he must pay
for it and the only way to pay was to be “disgraced” as he was said to be
sleeping when the plenary session was live on all television networks and
beamed around the world.
