Bloodbath Looms In Delta Over Gruesome Murder Of Muslims
Unless the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), Delta State Police Command move swiftly into the Arewa Community, otherwise known as Hausa quarter (Cable-point) of Asaba, Delta State, which is already saturated with apprehension over the killing of one Umar Haruna, a tricycle rider from Bauchi State by unknown bandits, there would be flow of uncontrollable blood.
Trouble struck Tuesday night when Haruna took the hoodlum on a drop behind Federal College where he met his untimely death.
It was gathered that the occupants of the tricycle diverted Haruna off the road where they murdered him, the hooligans escaped into the nearby bush on sighting policemen on patrol.
It was also learnt that the death of Haruna was the third in this week aside other killings running between 10-15 deaths this year.
The Hausa Community which planned to take to the street with the body of the deceased and to the Government House to register their grievances amidst the Eid-el-Fitr celebration were stopped by the Special Assistant (SA) to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, on Non-Indigenous Affairs (Muslims), Alhaji Mohammed Muktari.
In his reaction, the South-south chairman of Muslims, Barr. Mohammed Nduka Elunoi, said, “I think that we have to be careful the way we handle these unfortunate incidence that have been happening. In the recent past, I think we have experience a lot of killings and these killings is teethed towards the Hausa people and now they are been apprehensive and they are scared walking on the streets”.
The Muslim leader expressed fear that the killings targeted at the Muslims may turn around, “where you have hatred, it is not always good. Some of these Hausa people have been in our midst and have lived with us in Asaba, about a 100 years now”, calling on the Federal Government to take with all seriousness the IPOB agitation for a Biafran State.
Alhaji Muktari in an interview called on the police to investigate these serial killings to bring the culprits to book.
Investigations revealed that the successive killing is not unconnected to the killing of some Igbos in the north especially the Christian women, Mrs. Bridget Agbahime beheaded in Kano State while some alleged that it is connected to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) who are retaliating their deaths.
