Mubi Youths Appeal to Speaker on suspended Lawmaker

The concern Youths of Mubi South Local Government have appealed to the Speaker of Adamawa House of Assembly, Rt Hon Kabiru Mijinyawa to lift the over due suspension on member representing Mubi South Constituency, Hon Abdulrahman Abubakar.

The youth in a statement signed by their spokesman, Mamuda Gella said the continuous suspension of Abubakar whose initial three months suspension had lapsed was disturbing and unjustifiable.

The youth noted that the continuous shutting out of Abubakar who not only served his three months suspension but fulfilled other conditions laid down by the house was not only a breach of his right as the duly elected member representing Mubi South but also that of the people of his constituency.

They appealed to the speaker to do the needy as a democrat by lifting the suspension particularly now that the ball is in his court as stated by the House Committee chairman on Information, Hon Hassan Barguma, who recently told journalists that Abubakar has been cleared by the house and needed just a directive from the Speaker to resume sitting.

"We urged the Speaker to realize that now is the time to display the independence of the legislative arm by acting inline with the popular wish of the majority lawmakers and people of Mubi South who elected Abubakar to represent them.

"The Chief whip of the House, Honourable Barguma has already announced to the world in media interview that the house has cleared Abubakar and was just waiting for the Speaker for the final order which we feel should never be a problem to the house if it want the electorate to take the independence of its leadership from outside influence seriously." the statement said.

While lauding Adamawa lawmakers for their show of sportsmanship in resolving the matter, the statement lauded the effective role played by former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, Gov Jibrilla Bindow, traditional rulers particularly the Lamido of Adamawa and other stakeholders in resolving the matter.
