Ssanu, Nasu Warn Against Imposition Of Vc On Oau

BEVERLY HILLS, March 26, (THEWILL) – The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non Academic Staff Union at the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU Ile-Ife, have alleged that the current management of the university probably had something to hide which is why it is planning to impose an anointed candidate as the institution's new Vice-Chancellor, V-C.

The chairman of SSANU in the university, Mr. Ademola Oketunde, and his NASU counterpart, Mr. Wole Odewunmi, spoke at a joint press conference held at the campus on Thursday evening, where they warned the management of the institution against the alleged plan to impose an anointed candidate on the university.

The unions noted that although they were not backing any of the candidates who applied for the position, they would not allow any candidate to be imposed on the university through the back door, insisting that the university would witness a great change if the next vice-chancellor could be picked from outside the “current management caucus.”

According to Oketunde, “We want integrity in the selection process of the next vice-chancellor of OAU. We have suffered a lot in the hands of these perpetrators called administrators in our university.

“For the past 15 years, workers in OAU have been in bondage. It is no longer bearable and we cannot afford to undergo another round of this ill treatment in the hands of this group.

“We want all universities in this country to be probed most especially OAU. The government should make the school management account for every kobo it has spent and in case you don't know, we don't have a governing council in the institution anymore.”
