Obiano Opens Nkpor Bridge To Commuters After Repairs 

The governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has declared the NkporBridge on the Onitsha – Enugu Expressway that was sliced in two by devastating gully erosion finally ready to use by commuters.

Declaring the road open to commuters on Monday at Nkpor, Governor Obianoobserved that it took barely a month to seal up the huge gully carved out by erosion during the rainy season, cutting the road into two and praised the construction company that handled the repairs for delivering the job on schedule.

According to him, with the completion of repair works on Nkpor Bridge, the Okija axis of the Onitsha – Owerri Road and a section of the 33-Road that leads to Kogi State, the Federal Government is now indebted to Anambra State to thetune of N30bn that accrued as refunds.

“I am using this opportunity to ask the federal government to help us with the refund because we need a lot of money to do other projects that we have on our hands. I’m happy that some reconciliation has been done between us and the federal ministry of works. I am looking forward to help from the federal government for the massive funds we have injected in the repair of federal roads. That will go a long way in helping with what we are doing in Anambra State,” Governor Obiano explained.

Also speaking at the Okija axis of the Onitsha – Owerri Road that was split by big gully erosion, Governor expressed happiness that with the repair works completed ahead of the heavy traffic expected at Christmas, commuters would be saved the suffering that would have resulted from the bad spot, pointing out that it was a major road that links Anambra to Imo, Abia and Rivers State.

The governor also used the opportunity of the road tour to perform a symbolic crossing of the 280m Aguleri Otu Bridge on the 48km road that leads to the Oil Fields of Aguleri. Speaking on top of the newly completed bridge, Governor Obiano revealed that it connects seven different communities to the mainland of Aguleri and the rest of the state.

“It is the longest bridge ever built by Anambra State. It links 7 communities. Ezi Agulu Otu, Enugu Otu, Isiokpo Otu, Iyiora Anam, Umuoba, Orient Petroleum and Aguleri Uno. This bridge was started in February. I am very happy that this is happening. This is the first time any government in Anambra State is remembering the people of this area. And this bridge will go a long way in opening up this area to ensure that the food they produce gets to the market,” the governor enthused.

Speaking further, Governor Obiano observed that the “bridge will carry the load of a lot of heavy duty trucks that will be conveying petroleum products to different parts of the country. So, this is a very important bridge and I am very happy that CCC did a very good job in completing this bridge in record time. It is a very important and strategic thrust by my administration because this area is very agro-rich, oil-rich and gas rich.”

The Government has achieved a whole lot since Dr Williie Obiano assumed office on March 17th 2014.

To achieve the desired result of his developmental plans for Anambra state, Gov WillieObiano tackled the security challenges that have kept some illustrious son and daughters ofthe state away from home for a long time headlong, to restore sanity, the Gov launched a joint security outfit named “Operation Nkpochapu”, the outfit comprising of The Navy, Army, the Police and Drug Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), went into action soon after it was launch that within the first one hundred days of this administration over 177 kidnappers were arrested across the state.

Peace and tranquillity returned to Anambra state owing to the success recorded by His Excellency brain child security outfits operation Nkpochapu.

The once dreaded Upper Iweka area of Onitsha was cleared of criminals and miscreants;most of the vehicles that hitherto to coming of the Obiano administration were loading and discharging passengers indiscriminately at the upper Iweka bridge there by blocking the ever busy Odumegwu Ojukwu way were cleared and relocated to motor packs around the area.

The security situation was near perfect in and around Upper Iweka that it was said that if you drop your mobile phone that you can come back and meet it at the same spot the next day.

Ndi Anambra returned home during the Christmas celebration in mass with songs of praises and commendations to the governor for incidents free xmass and New Year celebrations, in the word of columnist Uche Ezechukwu after the xmass celebration “that Ndi Anambra had never had it so good before”.

As a result night life and businesses returned to Onitsha and Upper Iweka in particular owing to the well thought out security plans of Governor Willie Obiano.

The government of Anambra state has done so well in Agriculture ! the state government through the ministry of Agriculture has distributeddifferent type of high yielding seedlings to farmers in the state to improve their harvest and wealth creation for rural farmers.

Another youth’s empowerment program has also trained and empowered numerous youths from the three senatorial district of the state in fish farming and processing, this is to position the state to be self-sufficient in fish production and plans to supply other states.

In health and Education sectors, Governor Willie Obiano has shown commitment in turning Anambra state into health tourism destination. It will be recalled that soon after the handover he mandated the commissioner for health to commence the rehabilitation and re-equipping all the general hospitals in the state and to upgrade Onitsha Ekwuluobia and Enugu Ukwu general hospital to specialist hospital.

The Orumba General Hospital Agali is wearing a new look today thanks to the partisanship of the state government and Rise clinic USA, The hospital has been rehabilitated remodel and re-equipped. During the last one year and eight months of this administration the Anambra state school of Nursing has been accredited by the national body for health institutions accreditations.

The Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital Amaku Awka has also been accredited and can now graduate its first barge of medical doctors any moment from now.

Furthermore , Governor Willie Obiano embarked on massive road construction with other infrastructural development. The three flyovers under construction in Awka have shown Governor Willie Obiano’s commitment in building a befitting capital territory for Ndi Anambra and Investors in the state.

Work is on-going at the site of the three arm zone of the state capital; the 830 hectares sprawling complex will host The Government House, the Governor’s lodge, the Banquet hall and the House of Assembly.

The setting up of Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency (ANSIPPA), as a vehicle through which investors are attracted to the state has been one of the best decisions of the administration. Within one year and few months of its establishment ANSIPPA has attracted over two billion dollars investment covering all sectors of the state’s economy.

Anambra state through ANSIPPA has attracted investors from all over the world who are interested in Power Sector, Oil and Gas, Real Estate Trade and Commerce, Agriculture and many others.

These and lots more has been achieved under chief Willie Obiano 's government.
