Nigeria Declares Independence Day, October 1 Holiday

BEVERLY HILLS, September 28, (THEWILL) – The Federal Government has declared Thursday, October 1 public holiday to mark Nigeria’s 55th Independence celebration.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Mr. Abubakar Magaji, made the declaration on behalf of the government in a statement Monday in Abuja.

Magaji, while congratulating Nigerians, urged citizens to use the occasion to pray for peace and unity of the country.

Nigeria gained independence on October 1, 1960.
