A' Ibom Gov. Commences Road Construction, Restores Electricity In Okobo LGA

It was a day of double blessings for the people of Okobo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State as Governor Udom Emmanuel visited the area to declare open the construction of a dual Carriage road project and at the event restored electricity to the community which had been thrown into darkness in the last five years.

Addressing the people, Governor Emmanuel stated that the project is undertaken to drive home his campaign promise of opening the hinterland for even development.

He noted that the road which traverses Uyo, Okobo, Oron and emptying into the East West road, is strategic as it links the state capital with the coastal communities.

Governor Emmanuel said that his administration is committed to the development of the coastal areas as a way of gearing up for the expected boom in economic activities as the Ibom Deep Seaport will soon be operational. He added that he was on a discussion with an Holland base firm for the development of Oron beach.

Moved by the plight of the Community which has been languishing in darkness for five years, the State Chief Executive ordered for a restoration of electricity in the area. He thanked the people for embracing the project and expressed confidence on it timely completion counting on the vigilance of Youths whom he commended for having successfully curbed the theft of Power Holding electrical equipment in recent time.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Works Mr Ephraim Inyang said that the construction of the road which will Span 31.4 kilometers will be executed by a multinational firm Renaissance Construction Company .

He noted that the road construction which incorporate three Bridges and lightings will be executed in two phases and will be completed in thirty six months.

The Transition Committee Chairman for Okobo Local Government Council, Mr Attah Okon said Okobo people were proud to be associated with the Governor in his bid to relink Uyo with Oron through Okobo. He commended the Governor's initiative and pledged the cooperation of the people to enhance the success of the road construction.

Goodwill messages were presented by the Paramount Ruler Owong Andem Ibok, former Minister of Housing, Mrs Akon Eyakenyi and Chief Executive Officer Renasance Construction Company, Mr Mehmet.
