At Least 87 Dead And Hundreds Injured In Crane Accident At Mecca

The incident occurred at around 5:37pm Saudi Arabian time just as worshippers were preparing for Magrib prayers, according to news sources.

Heavy storms caused a crane to topple at Islam’s holiest site Mecca today in Kaaba, Saudi Arabia. Early estimates say that at least 87 worshippers were killed and up to 201 others injured.

The incident occurred at around 5:37pm Saudi Arabian time just as worshippers were preparing for Magrib prayers, according to news sources.

According to reports the storm began at about 4pm Saudi Arabian time bringing strong winds and forcing temperatures to drop, which caused the crane to fall onto Muslim pilgrims.
