EIGHT PATIENTS SUCCESSFULLY UNDERGO OPEN HEART SURGERY IN NIGERIA

Eight patients have successfully undergone open heart surgeries at the National Hospital Abuja recently.

The Chief Medical Director, National Hospital, Dr. Jafaru Momoh made the disclosure in Abuja while speaking on the Open Heart Surgery Programme.

He said the programme was conceived out of the need to assist Nigerians who could not travel abroad for medical treatment and to provide expert medical care, thereby reducing the burden of medical tourism in the country.

Dr. Momoh also revealed that the hospital management has recommended highly specialized services in radiotherapy, cancer treatment while ensuring sustenance of its in-vitro fertilization programme.

The surgery was carried out in collaboration with the Cardio-thoracic team of a Non-governmental organization led by Nigerians, Dr. Segun Ajayi and Dr. Ikenna Omeje with the National Hospital Team coordinated by Dr. Iretiola Babaniyi and Dr. Yahaya Adamu among others.
