Technology Can Curb Piracy – Don Pedro Aganbi

As the Nigerian Movie industry Nollywood and indeed the entertainment Industry continue to battle the menace of piracy in Nigeria, Chairman, Actors Guild of Nigeria - Lagos State Chapter Don Pedro Aganbi has urged producers and film makers to pay attention to Information Communications Technologies if they must reduce or curb piracy. Don Pedro Aganbi who is also the Executive Director of TECHTV Nigeria stated this at forum tagged “KICK AGAINST PIRACY and CRIME” organised by Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) Lagos Chapter in collaboration with the performing musician Association of Nigeria (PMAN) at the Astro pitch of the National stadium in Lagos. According to Don Pedro Aganbi “The one way to tackle this issue of piracy head-on is a five-pronged approach — improve economic and cultural development, better rule of law, government will and accountability and innovation. Like in the US a strong statute has ensured that nobody can carry an audio-visual recording device with the intent of reproducing content into the marketplace. Another legal crack down ensured that a major site like megaupload was shut down in an attempt to curb piracy, what are we doing here? No structure, to plan, no system, no strategy and the result is that pirates are smiling to the bank. The time has come for Nollywood and the entertainment Industry to move away from the old ways of doing things and embrace technology. That is the way to go. That is the future. Aganbi posited. Guests at the KICK AGAINST PIRACY and CRIME Novelty football match include AGN National president, Amb. Emeka Ike, PMAN President Pretty Okafor, Rugged Man, Sunny Nneji, Sound sultan, patoranking, Solid Star, Felix Duke,Tony Akposheri, Hakkem Rahman, Ekeka Ike, Bling, Baba D, Frank Dallas and immediate past commissioner of police Kayode Aderanti among others
