Abducted Regent Of Akungba Akoko Rescued By Security Forces

SAN FRANCISCO, June 16, (THEWILL) –  Oluwatoyin Omosowon, the Regent of Akungba Akoko in Akoko South-West Local Government of Ondo State, has been rescued by security agents from kidnappers.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Omosowon was kidnapped on June 2.

Mr. Christian Ojobor, the state Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), handed over the regent to Gov. Olusegun Mimiko at the Government House on Tuesday in Akure.

Ojobor said the leader of the kidnap gang died in the course of the rescue operation while two others were arrested.

He assured the governor of the determination of the security agencies to check the menace of kidnappers and others criminals in the state.

In his remarks, Mimiko lauded the efforts of the security agencies, saying stiffer penalty awaits criminals in the state.

He said there was an extant law against kidnapping in the state, adding that any necessary amendment would be effected.

The governor commended the people of Akungba Akoko for maintaining peace, assuring them that those apprehended would face the wrath of the law.

Other victims rescued during the operation were the regent’s driver, Mr Aliu Jelili, an NYSC member, Miss Azubike Ijeoma, an Indian, Mr Alex John Thekinathy, alongside his orderly, Mr. Obute Sunday.
