Congratulatory Letter

Mr. Osagie Okunbor, Managing Director/ Country Chair, Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria. Abuja. 10th March 2015.

Congratulatory Letter.

It is with a heart of immeasurable gratitude that the entire members and trustees of our noble socio-cultural organization received the news of your well-deserved appointment as the country Managing Director of Shell Petroleum Development Company, Nigeria. Our immediate reaction was that God and the ancestors made reason and merit to prevail over sectionalism and masochistic tendencies that were at play following the preliminary stages of the meticulous screening.

It is an indisputable fact that the Benins are the most hospitable ethnic nationality in Nigeria; while having a reservoir of intellectuals and technocrats owing to a rejuvenated interest in education and sound morals by our forebears; and we are not envious of anyone who succeeds from our soil. It has become incumbent on us to entrench the doctrine of reciprocation in our brothers and sisters holding any position of relevance by indulging in ventures that will positively affect their communities of operations or business. And we are impressed by your track record of ethics and professionalism; we can only wish for more Divine mercies for you, your family and your organization (SPDC).

Our objectives include but not limited to the following-

1. The promotion of the values of oneness, hospitality, hard work and a prolific reward system through seminars, symposium and the annual Benin National Merit Award.

2. Promotion of sound cultural and ethical values aimed at enhancing industry, and human capital base of Benin nation and Nigeria at large through Educational projects and scholarship awards.

3. The advancement of the Edo language; the campaign for the reparation of Benin artifacts; and the preservation of historical relics against the backdrop of UNESCO's prediction of extinction of some valuable African values.

4. The advancement of peace through community based initiatives and meaningful engagements with public/private institutions.

You have joined the noteworthy club of eminent Benins who are in the driving-seats of foremost industries and institutions; however, we will be more gratified if you serve meritoriously in a manner that will elevate the image of Benin nation like Prof. Osayuki Oshodin, Dr. Capt. Hosa Okunbo, Mrs. Ifueko Omoigui-Okaeru, Sen. Daisy Danjuma, Dr. Greg Ero, Hon. Matthew Iduoriyekemwen amongst others who have endeared themselves to the hearts of the average Benin man and woman for their community-inclined dispositions and humanitarian services, which in our judgment are legendary and worthy of emulation.

While pledging to compliment your effort in delivering your utmost best for your organization, we will continue to pray and wish you the very best in your new office and responsibility.

Please accept the assurances of our esteemed regards, now and always.

Aiyamenkhue Edokpolo, President, Benin National Congress. 39, New Lagos Road, New Benin, Benin City.
