PDP Blames Amaechi For Deplorable State Of Amb. Nne Furo Kurubo Model Secondary School

The Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it is alarmed at the sorry state of the Ambassador Nne Furo Kurubo Model Secondary School, Eleme, in Eleme Local Government Area of the state.

The State Chairman of PDP, Bro. Felix Obuah, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Jerry Needam, described the situation as pitiable, arising from crass negligence by Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi’s administration.

Painting a graphic picture of the rot in the college, the PDP stated that basic facilities like water and electricity had long disappeared in the school. It noted that resort to sachet water has resulted in widespread of cholera and typhoid in the college.

The party added that some of the buildings which cost the State government fortunes, have been de-roofed by wind and lay scattered at different points in the school premises.

The PDP recalled that sometime in 2014, workers in the college embarked on strike over allegations of discrimination against indigenous teachers by the Indians who administer the school.

The party regretted that, rather than harken to the cries of the workers, Governor Amaechi ordered their sack. Those sacked workers are yet to be paid their terminal benefits seven months after.

The PDP also gathered that gardeners, cleaners and indigenous teachers are yet to be paid salaries for seven months. Piqued by the nonpayment of their salaries, the cleaners are said to have locked up the hostels to press home their demands.

While decrying the situation, the PDP also condemned the non-admission of fresh students since the inception of the College, saying that these are glaring pointers to the failures of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration in the State.

The party however called on the aggrieved workers and students of the college to take heart as the PDP would address all issues and ensure that justice prevails when it comes to power by May 29, 2015.
