Ekiti Labour Veterans Advise NLC Against Partisan Politics

Veteran Labour leaders in Ekiti State have advised the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) to steer clear of partisan politics, saying the labour movement must not be destroyed because of politics.

Rising from its meeting in Ado-Ekiti today, the Veteran Labour leaders, in a release signed by its Chairman, Comrade Idowu Faleye and Secretary, Comrade Dare Ofere, advised both the National President of NLC, Comrade Umar Abduwaheed, members of the Central Working Committee (CWC) and the Ekiti NLC leaders to keep to the policy of labour and avoid dragging the State workers into partisan politics because of selfish financial gains.

"It has come to the notice of we, the veteran labour leaders in Ekiti State that the incumbent governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi has induced some leaders of the NLC from Abuja with unspecified amount of money to arrange a campaign rally in support of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

"Already, a circular had been issued by the Chairman, Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Raphael Olaiya, mandating all workers to come to the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado-Ekiti for the paid endorsement of the APC candidate on Saturday.

"In maintaining the political neutrality of Ekiti workers and protecting the image of the NLC, we hereby urge workers in Ekiti State to shun the endorsement rally, bearing in mind that workers are to be loyal to the government, not to any political party."
