Following the renewed violence in Jos, Plateau State, the Kano State Police Command has suspended all political rallies within the metropolis as part of measures to checkmate trouble makers.

Credible police sources told Daily Sun that the suspension incidentally coincided with the ongoing rallies of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across the state.

According to sources, following this directive, the PDP in the state had presented a new timetable in respect of their ongoing rallies which clearly accommodates the new arrangement.

Daily Sun gathered that the suspension of the rallies was with the active approval of the parties in the state, adding that the leadership of the various parties met with the new Kano State Commissioner of Police at the Bompai headquarters last week where the proposed suspension of the rallies was tabled and discussed.

The source said those in attendance at the meeting include Alhaji Salisu Sidi Abba, the atate chairman of the Action Congress, Alhaji Isa Nuhu, the state chairman of the Alliance for Democracy, Dr. Ali Makoda, the state deputy chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), among others.

Those at the meeting, it was gathered, thanked the police command for their foresight in this regard and urged them to do all that is necessary to continue to maintain peace and order in the state.

Meanwhile, the police have since beefed up security arrangement in the state, according to investigation by the Daily Sun. It was observed that they have been subjecting motorists across the metropolitan area to a serious search, starting from 8.30 pm.

The operation, it was gathered, had resulted into emergence of long queues of vehicles, which many found uncomfortable to cope with.
