Make Igbo Compulsory Subject In All Institutions-Igbo Governors Urged

In a bid to promote Igbo language and culture, the Igboamaka newspaper, an Igbo language news medium has tasked the states government in the Southeastern geo-political zone for a collaborative effort in making the language compulsory at all its primary and secondary schools as well as to ensure that none would gain admission into all tertiary institutions in the zone without crediting the subjects.

Speaking in an interview with Orient Daily, Publisher of the monthly paper, Comrade Arinze Anazodo, stressed that this would also assist in inculcating its norms and values into people at a tender age, especially now westernization and civilization influences people's lifeclasss.

Citing example to back-up his postulations, Comrade Anazodo disclosed that the first publication of Igboamaka which was unveiled on January 10th this year were distributed for free to students and pupils in elementary, secondary schools and tertiary institutions in Anambra state as a way of encouraging young ones to cultivate good reading habit and to be proud of their mother's tongue, even as he vowed to extend similar gesture at the nooks and crannies of Igbo land.

According to him, Igboamaka newspaper was targeted at refining the mindsets of youths, transformation, development, growth and standardization of Igbo language generally, as its content covers all aspects of life.

He therefore, called on the state Governors in the zone, Philanthropists and private individuals to assist them financially and otherwise so as to actualize its dreams among whom is to establish a learning and civic center (Igboamaka center) aimed at displaying Igbo literatures for free readers, researchers and tourists for a speedy growth of the language to the generations yet unborn.
