NAF: Sustained Air Assault Pushing Boko Haram Insurgents Into Neighbouring Countries

BEVERLY HILLS, February 05, (THEWILL) - The ongoing assault on the remaining hideouts and strongholds of Boko Haram in the Northeastern part of the country is pushing the insurgents into the neighbouring countries of Niger, Chad and Cameroon, the Nigeria Air Force (NAF) has disclosed.

NAF made this known in a statement by its 79 Composite Group with headquarters in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital , saying it has recovered from the shock of the December 3,2013 attack on its base to launch a massive assault on the insurgents.

The Group Public Relations , Squadron Leader Chris Erondu , who signed the statement , said the Air Force has "re-intensified its efforts in the fight against Boko Haram terrorists in the North east, as its air operations have resulted to heavy casualty on the side of the insurgents residing in their camps around the Sambisa Forest.

" According to Erondu, "Unperturbed by the incessant threats by the Boko Haram terrorists in the Northeast, especially the insurgents' recent attacks and sacking of many communities in Borno State, the NAF is increasingly committed in the current fight against terrorism not only in the state, but the country in general.

" He disclosed that with the resolve to restore normalcy in Maiduguri, the 79 Composite Group had been providing air support to other security operatives of the 'Operation Zaman Lafiya' in Maiduguri metropolis and its environs.

Erondu disclosed that based on intelligent report on the activities of the Boko Haram gunmen, the Group in conjunction with the 75 Strike Group NAF Yola, deployed air platforms which carry out air surveillance, interdiction and raid operations on identified hideouts of the insurgents in the Bullabulin, Yujiwa, Alagarno, Damboa axis of the state.

Maintaining that the results of these air operations have been remarkable with the insurgents retreating into neighbouring countries Cameron, Chad and Niger Republic , following heavy casualties they suffered after the destruction of their camps in the Sambisa Forest.

Erondu said as a result of this, llaw and order have returned to Maiduguri with men of the JTF 'Operation Zaman Lafiya' and other security agencies maintaining constant watch on the metropolis and its environs as residents now go about their normal business activities without any fear.
