Oduahgate: Coalition holds protest rally in Lagos

The Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders (CACOL) on Wednesday held a protest rally at the premises of the ICPC in Lagos, insisting on investigations into the alleged purchase of armoured cars for the Aviation Minister, Mrs Stella Oduah.

In a petition delivered by its Executive Chairman, Mr Debo Adeniran to the ICPC Head of Lagos Office, Mr Binga Shintema, who received the group, CACOL demanded an immediate investigation into the alleged purchase of the bullet-proof cars.

The CACOL petition also called for a probe of the activities of the NCAA, the Nigerian Airspace Management Authority (NAMA) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and other relevant agencies under the Ministry of Aviation.

“We also beleive that, apart from probing the authenticity of the market cost of the said cars, the source of authority and procedure should also be probed” it stated.

CACOL however urged the commission to beam its investigative searchlight to other similar areas of government, in order to check the culture of impunity and recklessness in governance.

In his response, the ICPC Head of Lagos Office, assured the protesters that the commission would take necessary actions on their petition.

“We will forward this petition to our head office in Abuja without delay” he said.

Controversy had trailed an alleged purchase of two BMW bullet-proof cars for Oduah by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) valued at N225 Million.

The protesters numbering over 100, stormed the Independent and Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) office, chanting solidarity songs and demanding that the commission accept a petition from them against the Ministry.
