Unity Bank vows to sustain retail banking legacy

Unity Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining its leading position in the banking sector through the provision and deepening the reach of retail banking services in the country.

Giving this assurance at a review meeting yesterday of the bank's on-going Savings Promotions headlined as 3-in-1 Savings Advantage especially the just concluded Road-Shows which took place in Lagos, Abuja, Bauchi, Dutse and Port Harcourt, the bank's Divisional Head, Retail banking, Usman Abaji, said the retail banking services were not only in line with the bank's strategic direction but would be a natural progression from its history and antecedents of being close to the people.

Abaji said that the roadshows were part of a plan to deepen the bank's retail thrust and noted critical lessons to be leant from Road-Shows especially it relates to feedback from the people. He expressed confidence that the lessons would be internalized and harnessed to further fine-tune the bank's retail banking offerings in addition to the Savings Promotions.

At the launch of the second phase of the Promo in June this year, the Managing Director of Unity Bank, Ado Yakubu Wanka had restated the bank's strategic direction and indicated plans to introduce more life-enriching retail products that will cater for the needs of retail banking services consumers.

The road shows which lasted for about two weeks covering some days in the month of June and ending in July, afforded the bank the opportunity of taking banking services to customers and non-customers in the places of their primary business in a much informal atmosphere. The staff in the cities walked round the cities and stormed markets where they interacted with members of the banking public.

The Unity bank Divisional Head explained that the Savings Promotion was aimed at the retail banking services consumers across the country as it caters for target savers, artisans needing business tools and parents saving for the education of their children.

The three-pronged advantage being offered in the Aim, Save & Win promotion is aimed at helping savers to grow their money, win business empowerment tools as well as scholarships for children especially those who emerge winners after the draws.

Under the Savings Promotion also known as Aim, Save and Win, Unity Bank is offering five variants of its savings products namely, General Savings, Target Savings, Business Empowerment Thrift Account (BETA), Double Edge Account and Unity Kids Account on the Promo which will last six months.

It will be recalled that the bank gave out five Hyundai cars among other prizes in the first edition of the Promo held last year. The Promo has the regulatory support of Consumer Protection Council of Nigeria (CPC), Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) and the National Lottery Regulatory Commission of Nigeria.

This year, the bank is giving five Kia Rio saloon cars, motorcycles, business empowerment tools, scholarship funds among others as prizes to winners from the draws.
