Good Governance -- Gov. Obi and UNICEF sign 2013 PIA

ANSG in furtherance of its good governance commitment and collaboration with international donors, today 12 April 2013 signed a PIA ( programme implementation agreement) with UNICEF for the partnership programmes for 2013 worth some N272 million.

The Anambra share of the programme (known ad GCCC - government counterpart cash contribution) is worth N100 million, while UNICEF would put in some N172 million. The total funding is exclusive of envisaged funds from the Bill Gates Foundation.

The 2013 programme will target areas such as providing anti shock garments, mosquito nettings, public health megaphones, and empowerment of single mothers.

Gov. Peter Obi said Anambra was in the forefront and took its partnership with UNICEF and other international donor agencies seriously. He noted that the PIA was the first to be signed between any state in the federation with UNICEF for 2013. Gov. Obi used the occasion to announce that Anambra State Government will provide HIV testing kits for over 800 testing site and would continue its aggressive stance in delivering healthcare support for children and women.

SSG Oseloka H. Obaze who was present at the ceremony, observed that "international donors' contribution to Anambra state, be it in direct or shared-cost funding, were sustained expression of immense confidence in the Peter Obi administration and its transparent utilization of such resources."

UNICEF 'A' Field Office representative, Mr. Charles Nzuki, noted that Anambra had become a model partner state for his agency and others, due to the proactive commitment of the State government and the leadership of Gov. Peter Obi. He thanked especially Prof. Stella Okunna who had oversight for such policy coordination with donor agencies.
