Kidnapping: South East Governors, Stakeholders Move To Curb Menace

SAN FRANCISCO, September 09, (THEWILL) – Governors of States in the South East and stakeholders on Sunday met in Enugu, the Enugu State Capital to strategize on how to curb the surge in kidnappings and other violent crimes in the zone.

The meeting which was attended by the AIG in charge of Zone 9, Mr. Solomon Olusegun, all Commissioners of Police in the zone, the General Commanding Officer (GOC), 82 Division, Major General Oluwaseun Oshinowo and Directors of the SSS in the five states of the zone set up a committee to submit recommendations on how to arrest the surge. The committee headed by the GOC is expected to submit its paper within two weeks.

Addressing reporters at the end of the meeting, Chairman of the South East Governors Forum, Peter Obi (Anambra State) said the governors are committed to restoring sanity in the zone and will do whatever is necessary to chase criminals out of the area.

The South Eastern zone has been plagued with kidnappings and armed robbery with Anambra and Abia States recording scores of attacks monthly.
