RETURN OF JENIFA WILL BE BIGGER THAN JENIFA
Funke Akindele After a spectacular premiere in New York and Chicago, the much-awaited The Return of Jenifa will make its cinematic debut in Nigeria with a grand premiere at the Muson Centre on October 7.
The movie, which is the sequel to Jenifa, was originally scheduled to debut on September 17, was deferred due to conflicting cinema schedules.
Already, it has attracted the support of telecoms giants, Globacom as well as the Lagos State government. Shot in locations within Nigeria and outside the country, The Return of Jenifa features an impressive cast that parades both music and movie stars such as Eldee the Don, Banky W, Denrele, Antar Laniyan, Iyabo Ojo, Ireti Osayemi, Helen Paul, the late comedian CD John, Omawumi, Yinka Quadri and many others.
It was directed by popular director, DJ Tee of DJ Tee Films, and was produced by Funke Akindele.
Commenting on the movie, Akindele said: 'The response we got from people about the first part of the film was very encouraging, and a lot of people were highly expectant about the second part. In order not to disappoint them, a lot of effort was put into the making of The Return of Jenifa and I'm sure that the Nigerian audience will not be disappointed. It will definitely be bigger than Jenifa.'
The storyline revolves around the life of the main character, Jenifa. She registered to be part of a dancing competition, but when asked to undergo HIV test as part of the requirements for entry into the competition, she fled being unsure of her status because of her past exploits. She was later forced to withdraw from the society that she once ruled, and relocated to the village. Going back to the village however does not stop her from being her crazy self, and in the end she learns that life is not all about being a 'gbogbo bigz girls.'
