Acting Is Only Half The Job – Dayo Amusa Urges Actors To Promote Their Films
Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa has called on members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) to take responsibility for promoting the films they feature in.
In a post on her Instagram page, the Yoruba actress stressed that an actor's job does not end on set but continues with active promotion to ensure audiences watch the finished work.
Amusa noted that in today's Nollywood, acting is only half the job. She urged actors to recognize that promoting a film is not a favour to the producer but an investment in their own brand. She explained that active promotion builds an actor's bankability and professionalism, making them valuable for future jobs and endorsements.
She also emphasized that fans follow actors, not just movie pages, so a single post can fill cinemas or push a film to number one on streaming platforms. She warned against letting the effort and sacrifice made on set go to waste due to poor publicity.
She further called on actors to adopt the standard of promoting their projects through interviews, posts, and premiere attendance, insisting that a visible and proud workforce would help Nollywood gain better pay and global respect.
She wrote:
"To all AGN members: Our job is not done after 'CUT'. My dear colleagues, I write to us today on a matter critical to our growth. Many of us still believe our work ends on set. It does not. In today's Nollywood, acting is only half the job. The other half is making sure the world watches what we have created. When your face is on the poster, your voice must be on the promotion. You are not doing the producer a favour. You are investing in yourself."
"Why you must promote every film you are in: It Builds Your Brand: Your active promotion shows you are bankable, professional and valuable. That is what brings your next job and your next endorsement."
"It Drives Success: Our fans follow us, not just movie pages. Your single post can fill cinemas and push a film to number one on streaming. You are the most powerful marketing tool the film has. It Protects Your Hard Work: You spent days away from home giving your best on set. Do not let that effort go to waste because no one knew the film was out. It Grows Our Industry: Hollywood stars promote their films with pride. If we want better pay and global respect for Nollywood, we must also champion our own work. I urge every actor to adopt this standard: promote any project you feature in with posts, interviews and premiere attendance during its publicity window."
