Afrobeats Big 3 Inspire My Global Mission – Shatta Wale

Ghanaian dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has made an interesting observation about the Afrobeats Big 3 of Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy, describing them as a strong motivation for his mission to go global.

Speaking in a recent interview on the Afrobeats podcast, the singer recounted how during his first encounter with Davido, the Afrobeats star informed him that his father was interested in one of his old songs. According to him, the acceleration of their career have limited their presence together.

Shatta Wale also shared the kindness Burna Boy showed to him by visiting Ghana during a torrid time, however, he noted that the singer is now busy. He also recalled how he had met Wizkid during a show, and once or twice at East Legion, revealing that the singer is reserved.

According to Wale, the trio's resilience and career success have constantly been a strong motivation in his pursuit to move his music to the global stage.

He also maintained that since they were able to take Afrobeats' beyond borders, he is planning on collaborating with them someday as part of his mission.

He said: “I met Davido first. He came to me and told me his dad loved a song I did way back. We had a very good relationship, but in life, when things start moving, they move fast and we have to accept that. That’s why people don’t really see me and Davido together on camera that much.

“With Burna Boy, he is like my twin brother. He came to Ghana when things were a little rough. Now, he is busy too. Wizkid has always been a laid-back person. The only time I really had a chance to meet him was when we had a show together. After that, we met once or twice at East Legon in my area. I feel he is busy too.

“I see all of them as motivation because I also have a mission in my country to push the agenda of going international. If they have been able to break through, then it means I should keep working on my craft and gradually we will have a good collaboration.”
