Cambridge University Says Hausa Language Not Part of 1961 Exams

Cambridge University has said it did not offer Hausa Language as part of the West African Certificate Examination, WASC, it conducted in 1961 for which the All Progressive Congress, APC Presidential Candidate, General Mohammadu Buhari claimed he scored a Credit Pass.

Jacky Emerson, Archives Service Delivery officer, Cambridge Assessment Archives Services of the University said in an email that African Languages were not part of the Examination in 1961.

“According to the Regulation for 1961, African Language Papers, including those for Hausa were not included for the West African School Certificate,” Emerson said.

Emerson responded to an enquiry made by one Sodiq Alabi to the University seeking to know if Hausa Language were offered in 1961 as part of the WASC Examinations.

General Buhari, the APC Presidential Candidate had claimed in a statement of result that he obtained Credit pass in the 1961 Cambridge/WASC Examinations.

A Statement of result belonging to General Buhari, published by Premium Times, an online news portal in the wake of his certificate controversies claimed that the APC candidate obtained Credit Pass in Hausa Language, English Language, a Pass in Literature in English, Good in History, Credit in Health Science and Credit in Geography.

While the retired General failed Mathematics and Wood Work, he got Excellent grade in Islamic Religious Studies. The response from Emerson however, did not disclose of Wood Work and Islamic Religious Studies, IRS, were part of the 1961 exams.
