Abia Speaker Doles Out Jeeps, Buses, Skill Acquisition Centres to Constituents


Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu has doled out several items of empowerment worth over 60 million to his constituents and selected beneficiaries across the three senatorial zones of the state.

Oko Chukwu who was speaking at a ceremony at Nkporo town to hand over the items to the beneficiaries, described it as his little contribution to complement the untiring efforts of the Gov. Theodore Orji's administration towards the delivery of concrete democracy dividends for the common good of the people of the state.

The Speaker who was visibly elated at the event said the day marks a significant milestone in his career as the representative of Ohafia North state constituency and Speaker of the 5 th  Abia State House of Assembly., stressing that he is encouraged by the immeasurable contributions of the Abia First Lady, Mrs Mercy Odochi Orji and her husband, Gov. Orji who have bettered the lots of many families through various forms of empowerment.

Among the Items of empowerment handed over to the beneficiaries at the ceremony include 32 Q-link motorcycles, 4 bicycles, 3 giant generating sets, 10 computer sets, 30 sewing machines, 100 power generating sets, 50 weaving machines, 20 hair dressing kits and accessories, 24 vulcanizing machines, 14 deep freezers, 10 sets of garri processing machines, 20 barbing kits and accessories, 14 grinding machines and  a complete set of modern DJ equipment, 53 vehicles — 6 jeeps, 3 Toyota Camry cars, one Toyota Corolla car, one Volvo car, one Toyota bus for Nkporo Council of Traditional Rulers, one Mitsubishi bus and 40 Passat cars) and 3,000 customized printed Indian wrappers; among others.

Commissioning a modern skill acquisition built and equipped by the Speaker at Abiriba and Nkporo towns, Gov. Orji who commended the Speaker for remembering to thank the people for their support, described him as a shining light among political office holders in the state. gathered that the centre fitted with state of the art of facilities in hairdressing, weaving, barbing, computer training, GSM repairs and bead making, is capable of taking over 500 trainees at a session.

In an interview with newsmen at the occasion, Mr. Francis Uguru Okpe who is a beneficiary of one the Toyota Camry car said Oko Chukwu's tenure at the House has become a blessing to the people of Ohafia North state constituency and Abia state.

According to him, it has become an annual ritual for the Speaker to give out cars and other items of empowerment to his people.

He added that Oko Chukwu is one politician who attends to the needs of his constituents without making noise about it, stressing that the constituents are calling on him to seek a higher office in 2015 because of his love for them.

Another recipient, who gave her name as Nnennaya, a hair dresser said she has been idle since she finished learning the trade because of lack of equipment to start up but her dreams will now be realized as the Speaker has opened a state of the art hair dressing salon for her.

The ceremony which held at the Etitiama Nkporo Community School field attracted the presence of Gov. Theodore Orji; his deputy governor, Sir Emeka Ananaba; Abia PDP chairman, Senator Emma Nwaka; his deputy, Chief Allen Nwachukwu; members of the state House of Assembly; former deputy governor, Eric Acho Nwalanma, Elder Emma Adaelu and PDP National Vice Chairman, South East, Col. Austin Akobundu who was the chairman of the event.

Others are the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly, Chief Samuel Ikon; chairman of the state council of traditional rulers, Eze Eberechi Dick, member representing Aba federal constituency, Hon. Uzo Azubuike; among others.

It was an event which will be remembered for a long time as the various political stakeholders across the 17 LGAs of the state came to identify with Oko Chukwu who many of them openly charged to seek a higher office in 2015.

the leadership of the government has keft nothing but examples for all to follow. it is no longer a matter of utter mute but a viral chain of development lead by the governor and as such has to the individual proactiveness to reciprocate the humbke jestures of the government of the ochendo administration.we are grateful. ride on.
