Sanusi Threatens To Drag Jonathan To Court Over Sack Says, “I have No Regrets”

Sacked former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mallam Sanusi

Lamido Sanusi has threatened to drag President Goodluck Jonathan to court

to determine if indeed the President has the powers to remove him.

President Jonathan had Thursday suspended Sanusi over allegation of

financial recklessness during his five-year tenure of Governor of the apex

But in an interview with CNBC Africa, Sanusi said: “it has never been my

desire to hold on to a job but however, I think it is important legally to

establish a point whether this can happen otherwise, the next CBN Governor

can be suspended and the independence of the CBN undermined.”

Insisting he has no plan to return to the apex Bank, the former CBN

Governor said, “if I have been queried or convicted, it's a different

matter but to exercise this rights arbitrarily and in a letter signed by

the SGF not even by the President. These are the questions that needs to

be answered in the court of law.”

“I do plan to have the court confirm if President has the authority to

sack a CBN Governor.

The former CBN Governor who expressed no regrets over his attack on the

Jonathan's led Government said, “you can suspend an individual but you

cannot suspend the truth. This is all about oil revenues and his concerns.

If this will bring back the $20 Billion, that is fine.”

On the allegation of his financial recklessness while in CBN, Sanusi said,

“ I don't know what they are talking about, I don't know what those

allegations are. When I return back, I will see what they are.

He said when the Financial Reporting Agency sought for answers to

questions raised from the CBN audited account, he had responded and since

then did not hear anything again from them.

Sanusi said the issues are the same issues that has been raised and

cleared earlier.

Expressing shock why it took the President this long to remove him, he

said, “ …we all know what this is about. It is about the consequences for

decision I have taken. I have no regrets. This is something that is long

overdue, I am surprised it took them so long.”

This is a complete mess. The former CBN governor raised an issue of missing funds, without proper investigations, you sacked him. Well, just like Sanusi said,if sacking him would pave way to bring back the missing funds, fine.
