CALABAR, July 14, (THEWILL) - Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State has called for the establishment of institutions that will enable Nigerian youths compete with their peers globally.

Speaking at the Founder and Trustees of The Bridge Leadership Foundation “Foundation’s Ball” at Peregrino Hall, Governors Lodge, Calabar, Imoke revealed that the concept of establishing the foundation’s International Leadership Centre is to contribute to the growth of youths. He said the concept of the institution is hinged on the realisation that the world is getting smaller and competitive due to technology, leading to global sharing of ideas even among children.

He said it is the responsibility of the foundation to ensure that Nigerian youths are not left out of this development.

“Cross River State youths need to compete and as well as key into the competition with others elsewhere with the same talents,” he observed. “Therefore, this programme will go a long way to develop the society by providing opportunities that the elders never had.”

The governor thanked speakers at the event and appealed that they should keep the candle they had lit in the state burning beyond the event, by partnering the state government and the foundation to translate what they lectured into reality.

He also requested that they liaise with government to help youths realise their dreams through hard work, integrity and love for one another, adding that beneficiaries of the Foundation have great hope for greater future, as they have been groomed for it,

“Mr. Christopher Ituah of Diamond Bank, one of the lead sponsors of the Career/Founder’s Day event, said the bank would not relent in its effort in supporting the foundation.

He said the theme of the event was apt because youths see leadership only in the public sector; and by the career event, they had been challenged to see how they could contribute to societal development.

Arch Victor Turner, a representative of Capital Fund, the firm designing the foundation’s International Leader Centre, explained that the edifice will be located within a 10,000 square meter plot.

He said the institution will have provision for hostel accommodation, gym, salon, mini mart, administrative block, lecture hall, generator, and water treatment plant amongst others.

Also speaking, assistant managing director, The Bridge Leadership Foundation, Ini Onuk said the Founder’s Ball was a forum meant to thank its supporters, partners and sponsors, and as well thank the founder of the foundation, Governor Liyel Imoke.
