Should I Apologise To My Teacher?

By Daily Graphic

Dear Auntie Betty,

I am a first-year student in an SHS in the Northern Region. Since I live very far away from school, I do not go home for mid-term holidays and prefer to stay in school.

While I was staying in school one day, a teacher gave me a ride when I was on my way to buy sugar and some exercise books. That was my first time of seeing that teacher. he proposed to me but I rejected it. Since then he has been pestering me.

He once asked my friend to call me but I refused to go and my pals insulted me. They are saying I should apologise to him. I don’t think I have done anything wrong.

Meanwhile, he will teach us in Form Two and I am afraid he can easily fail me in my exams.

Akua, Wa.

Dear Akua,

You have done very well to resist pressure from the teacher. But you don’t have to keep things to yourself, else he will use other means to say you are a bad girl and pick on you.

You have to go to any female teacher you are close to, your form teacher or school counsellor so that you can be assisted to sort the problem out.

Do not go to him when you are alone, no matter what the circumstance is. If he sends for you, you do not have to be rude to him. you can go with a friend. But be respectful.

But do not wait any longer before you confide in an adult to solve this problem. If you don’t have anyone to go to, go to your headmistress.

Don’t be scared that he can fail you. You need to study hard so that he will find it impossible to give you low grades. If it is clear that you have done well, he cannot do anything about it.
