Police Defuse Timed Bomb At Bayero University New Campus

MAY 01, (THEWILL) – Barely 24 hours after terrorists linked to the Boko Haram detonated bombs and killed about 7 Christian worshippers during a Sunday church service at the old campus of the Bayero University Kano, a timed Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted close to a mosque inside the new campus of the university was late Monday night defused by an anti-bomb team of the Nigeria Police Force.

The device according to Police sources was diffused 20 minutes before it was set to detonate.

Kano Police spokesman, Musa Magaji Majia told THEWILL on Monday night the operation was successfully conducted following a tip off. He added that the entire campus has been searched to ensure that there were no other IEDs on campus, while assuring students and lecturers of their safety.

The radical terrorist group Boko Haram earlier on Monday in Jalingo, the Taraba State Capital, targeted the convoy of the Taraba State Police Commissioner. Eyewitnesses reported seeing more than 7 dead bodies as a result of the bomb attack. The Police Commissioner however escaped unhurt.
