At least 7 people died and many others were injured after an explosion this morning in Kaduna.Witnesses say 2 men riding on a motorcycle hurled an object which detonated shortly after they drove away around 9:30am into a shop located at No. 32, Ogbomoso

road, near Ori Apata in the central area of Kaduna. However, Police Commissioner  Ballah M. Nasarawa denies that it was a bomb, saying that items from within shop must have caused the explosion.

According to the owner of the shop, Sunday Anigubo, his younger brother and three others whom he identified as Onyeka, Egbuka and an unnamed Hausa

boy were among those in the shop when the explosion happened.

Sunday denied that any item in the shop could have caused the explosion as he only sells spare parts of Peugeot vehicles and lorries.

A crowd of close to 500 has converged at the scene of the incident and a police helicopter has been deployed, hovering

above and conducting 'aerial patrol.' The wounded are being taken to Rakiya Specialist Hospital, near Magajin Gari.

A total of ten shops were burnt in the ensuing blaze. Rescue efforts are continuing at the moment of filing in this report.
