ABIDJAN, Côte d'Ivoire, December 6, 2011/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- The United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) welcomes the decision by members of the opposition Conseil National pour la Résistance et la Démocratie (CNRD, National Council for Resistance and Democracy) to take part in the 11 December 2011 legislative elections.

UNOCI feels that this new position strengthens the inclusive nature of the polls and increases the chances of plural representation within the Ivorian parliament, which should reflect all political trends among the Ivorian people.

UNOCI encourages all Ivorian parties to pursue their efforts, within the framework of the political dialogue that must transcend any rifts and even electoral concerns, to pave the way for true reconciliation so as to have lasting peace.

UNOCI remains ready to provide, in accordance with its mandate and its resources, all the necessary support to the Ivorian parties in order to reinforce the country's democratic foundations.
