By NBF News

Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), yesterday, unveiled a new emblem at the Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos. The ceremony attracted top dignitaries from across the country, including the UK Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Peter West, former NOC president, Engineer Habu Gumel, representative of the DG, National Sports Commission, Mrs Tayo Oreweme and other stakeholders in sports.

Speaking at the event, NOC President and the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF) boss, Engr. Sanni Ndanusa, said the concept of designing a new emblem for the committee was founded on the initiative of the present administration, which came into office with a transformation agenda and vision to strategically reposition the committee for better achievements.

'It was in pursuant of this objective, therefore, that the NOC commissioned a reputable consultant to create a new design of our official emblem that would depict the new character and invigorate the spirit of sportsmanship and Olympism in us.

'According to Rule 11 of the Olympic Charter, 'Olympic emblems are an integrated design associating the Olympic Rings with another distinctive element. The emblem shall serve as the institutional representation of the committee and may appear on all official communications and materials'.

We are happy that upon the presentation of our proposal to the IOC for the re-design of the logo, the IOC reviewed and approved the concept in record time,' he said.
