NCS CONDEMNS MEDIA REPORT ON NIMASA

THE Nigerian Chamber of Shipping (NCS) has condemned media reports calling for professionals to manage the affairs of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) saying that the current management has brought about the desired changesĀ  for theĀ  agency.

In a statement, the President of the Chambers Mrs Ify Akerele said that the statemenr that were attributed to the officials of Fidelity bank were not true as adding that the bank's presentation did not bother on the management of NIMASA.

The report which was in respect of a two day workshop ''Towards Safer Quality Shipping; Classification and Statutory Survey'. Orgiansed the Chamber

in collaboration with the American Bureau of Shipping . noted that the participants commended NIMASA in its efforts to ensure that local operators participate in the Cabotage trade.

Her words 'Our goal is and has always been to promote and act as advocates for the

maritime/shipping industry on issues of shipping policy formulation,

implementation and monitoring, maritime affairs, technical matters such as

administration/ management, safety operation in maritime/shipping and to

encourage best practices among members to meet international standards.'

The Nigerian Chamber of Shipping also seeks to encourage indigenous

participation in the maritime oil and gas business on how to make best use

of the Local Content Policy.
