VIOLENCE, BOMBINGS NEGATE DEVT IN NIGERIA - AJIMOBI

By NBF News

Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has described the incessant bombings in the country as negative and destructive development.

Following his 'message of peace and goodwill' at the 2011 International Day of Peace/Veteran Walk in Ibadan on Wednesday, the governor noted that the trend was unprecedented in the history of Nigeria.

Ajimobi, who was represented by his deputy, Mr. Moses Adeyemo, stressed the need to promote harmony among the citizens as a means of enhancing sustainable development.

The 10km Walk, which began in front of the Government House, Agodi, took the deputy governor, members of the state executive council, permanent secretaries, heads of departments and agencies as well as representatives of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, Federal Road Safety Commission, Customs, Immigration and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps through major streets in Ibadan, the state capital.

The governor noted that the efforts by Nigeria at sustaining peace both locally and internationally was too obvious to be ignored.

While recalling that the country had participated in global peace-keeping mission, he expressed happiness that the state had, recently, enjoyed tranquility and peace which, hitherto, eluded it.

He said, 'Before now, some members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers had terrorised the state. We, however, thank God that peace has returned to our state.'

He urged the people of the state to assist his government in its task of sustaining the peace by being law-abiding and upholding the rule of law so that the rightful atmosphere for peaceful co-habitation could be attained.

The current administration, he said, would not relent in its effort at pursuing activities that would enhance the socio-economic emancipation of the people of the state, with the aim of maintaining peace.

Ajimobi promised that the war veterans, who incubated the peace of the world, would continue to be appreciated in recognition of their immense contributions to global peace and its sustenance in the state.

The governor urged all military personnel, the Nigerian Legion and paramilitary bodies to continue to partner with his administration in the pursuit of the trilogy of peace, progress and prosperity in the state.

Apart from exercising the body, he said the walk was symbolic of the support of the people of the state for the United Nation's dream of global peace.
