EXPERTS COMMEND ONDO ON SAFE MOTHERHOOD PROJECT

The Society of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians of Nigeria on Tuesday commended the Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, for his contributions towards reducing child and maternal mortality in the country.

In appreciation of this, the group had agreed to confer on him its distinguished Fellow award later this year.

The group led by its leader, Prof. Oladapo Ladipo, stated this during a courtesy call on the governor in his office in Akure.

Ladipo, according to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Kolawole Olabisi, commended the vision of the state government through the Abiye (Safe Motherhood) programme.

He noted that the programme, which gives equal access and treatment to children and wives of both the rich and poor at no cost, should be emulated by other states in the country.

He said most of the maternal deaths recorded globally were occasioned by discrepancies in the geographical, economic and political settings, which he said must be critically addressed.

Ladipo said, 'No other governor in this country has done so much as you have done. You have gone a step forward. Indeed, you are visionary leader. That you associated with key factors to save humanity shows that you are visionary governor.'
