UGHELLI-NATIONAL Chairman of Oil Producing Areas Association of Nigeria, OPAAN, Chief Ominimini Obiuwevbi, yesterday, called on President Goodluck Jonathan to give priority to the East-West Road project.

Obiuwevbi in a statement, said: 'The takeover of the reconstruction of the East-West Road by the Niger Delta Ministry is indeed a good omen to the people of the region in particular and Nigerians at large. We are indeed glad over the expansion of the original design.

'We commend the effort of the Minister of Niger Delta, Elder Godsday Orubebe in handling the affairs of the ministry, particularly in the development of the indigenes of oil producing communities.'

Obiuwevbi expressed confidence that the road project would be completed on schedule and to specification, adding that the construction company, Setraco Nigeria Limited was known for quality jobs and delivering on its contractual agreements.

He said: 'We shall not fold our hands while contractors working for governments go to the fields without being monitored or periodically evaluated. We can give the score card of Setraco on the East-West road.'

While calling on President Jonathan to release more funds to the Ministry towards the timely completion of the road project, he said the early completion of the road would boost socio-economic activities in the region.
